The Amazings is a new social venture launching in East London

We help people who are about to retire or have retired create amazing experiences with the skills, knowledge and passion they’ve picked up throughout their life. We handle the advertising and payments – all the Amazing has to do is decide when they want to run their experience, turn up, be amazing, and then collect the cash.

Meet the team

We’re hiring!

We’ve got big plans for 2012 and we’re looking for amazingly enthusiastic and talented people to join TEAM AMAZING.

South London Community Manager

We’re looking for a lively and organised person to land The Amazings first step on South London soil.

You’ll be in charge of spreading The Amazings South of the river, which involved everything from recruiting Amazings, spreading the word to customers and finding potential venues for Amazings to run their activities in.

You’ll be based in our beautiful Old Street office with the rest of the team, as well as be hitting the streets of South London. The existing team will be able to bring you up to speed on the types of approaches used in Hackney, but there’s room to devise new tactics and use some initiative and creative thinking!

We’re looking for someone who’s enthusiastic, organised and not afraid to get their sleeves rolled up and get stuck in. Must be comfortable speaking to anyone and be polite and friendly (while getting the job done!)

Ideally, you’ll have knowledge of different parts of South London, and be able to identify areas that you think will be most fruitful in terms of finding Amazings and making sales.

If you’re interested in applying, please send your CV with a covering note explaining why you want to work for The Amazings to katie@theamazings.org

Closing date – 10th February

Developer – freelance contract
The Amazings are looking for a well tested rails developer to join our small team and take our platform beyond ‘just’ selling tickets to our events and really help us showcase our amazing Amazings and support our customers, fans and staff. We want the Amazings platform to be really useful and usable for all of our users. We’re trying to make the world a bit more Amazing by helping people understand and share what they’re amazing at, and the web platform is at the heart of that…We’re moving to a Rails 3.1 app shortly, and we’re looking for a enthusiastic dev with experience working on social applications, especially if you’ve used Activemerchant, CanCan and Devise. Experience building well tested apps using Cucumber/Capybara would be very useful. As we develop the Amazings platform we’ll want to integrate more social features using Facebook and Twitter (including user authentication with devise/omniauth), so experience with that would be a big advantage. You should also have experience working with some front end coding; we’re not looking for HTML5/CSS3 wizardninjas, but you should definitely know your <DL>s from your <UL>s and be comfortable with AJAX concepts.

We’re a small team with a great office, and we’re really keen to work with people who are passionately excited about what we are trying to do, show imagination and have a bit of flair; we want a developer who’s keen to be part of the team and wants to help us come up with the best platform possible for our Amazings and customers; we’ll welcome your ideas and criticisms!

Hopefully you can help us in the office table tennis tournaments too!
